There’s something especially meaningful about photographing a family of six—so many relationships, little moments, and layers of connection unfolding all at once. This recent family photography session in Tacoma, WA at Point Defiance Park in the Japanese Garden was the perfect setting to capture it all.

From the moment we started, this Tacoma family photo session felt relaxed and full of life. Mom and Dad created a calm, grounded presence, while their four kids filled the space with personality—playful, curious, and themselves. Each with their own unique personality yet bonded as siblings. As a family photographer, my goal is always to create an environment where families don’t feel stiff or overly posed, but instead feel comfortable enough to simply be together.


The Japanese Garden offered a peaceful, textured backdrop—winding paths, wooden bridges, and soft greenery that made it one of the best locations for outdoor family photography in Tacoma. But what truly made this session special wasn’t just the scenery—it was the connection. The way the siblings leaned into each other, shared inside jokes, and broke into laughter created those genuine, candid family moments every photographer hopes to capture.

There’s something magical about photographing siblings—especially during a fun, candid family photo session. The mix of silliness and sweetness, the bursts of laughter, and the spontaneous hugs all came together so naturally. Some of my favorite images came from those in-between moments: kids making each other laugh, a quick hug turning into a pile-on, and those authentic smiles that can’t be posed.


With a larger family, it’s never about perfection—it’s about connection. And this session captured exactly that—authentic family photography filled with joy, movement, and love. These are the kinds of images that tell a story—documenting this season of life in a way that feels real and lasting.
